Bulky waste in Lisbon: How do I get rid of it?

Bulky waste in Lisbon - how do I get rid of it?

If you are new to Lisbon or are currently reorganising your household, sooner or later you will face the question: where to put your bulky waste? The good news is that the city of Lisbon offers straightforward options for disposing of large items safely and correctly.

Bulky waste collection by the city

The Câmara Municipal de Lisboa offers a free collection service for large items. The collection must be booked in advance by telephone on 800 910 211 or in person at a Câmara Municipal de Lisboa counter, and usually takes place within a few working days. When you make the appointment, you will be told when you can put your bulky waste out on the street. Anyone who puts their waste on the street without an agreed appointment will be fined.

Please note: This service is only intended for private households.

What can I have collected

The following will be collected, among others:

  • Furniture (tables, chairs, cupboards)

  • Mattresses

  • Large electrical appliances

  • Paper/cardboard weighing more than 100 kg

The following items cannot be collected:

  • Paints, varnishes, chemicals

  • Building rubble

  • Car parts

Disposal at a waste collection centre (Centro de receção de resíduos)

Waste that cannot be disposed of in public bins or recycling containers due to its characteristics and/or size can be taken to waste collection centres.

Disposal of waste at waste collection centres is free of charge, so small industrial businesses, commercial enterprises and private individuals can use this separate waste disposal system.
